Riley Patterson’s game-winning 41-yard field goal in the final seconds of the game helped the Detroit Lions defeat the Los Angeles Chargers in a shootout. After both teams traded points late in the contest, Detroit improved to 7-2 on the season.

Highlight of the offense: The Lions offense was on point this week, with Jared Goff throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns and the run game causing a lot of damage early in the contest. After missing two games due to a rib injury, David Montgomery made his way back into the starting lineup. Although his running partner Jahmyr Gibbs took over goalline duties, Montgomery was still able to contribute as he scored a touchdown in this game, reaching the end zone by 75 yards. Montgomery as a whole 12 carries for 116 running yards during the day. As usual, Amon-Ra St. Brown served as Goff’s main receiving option, leading the team with 156 yards on eight receptions.

Justin Herbert intercepted the ball early in the game to give the Chargers a rough start, but he steadied the ship the rest of the way, throwing for 40 completions, 323 yards, and four touchdowns. With 14 targets thrown his way, Keenan Allen proved to be dominant once more, hauling in 11 receptions for 175 yards and two scores. Before scoring his second touchdown, Allen had to leave the game due to a shoulder injury, but he looked well when he returned for his first reception of the game, a 38-yard score. Austin Ekeler added four grabs for 48 receiving yards in addition to running the ball 19 times for 67 yards and scoring a touchdown.Defense was optional for both teams this week, as seen by the fact that neither side registered even one sack. Kerby Joseph committed the only turnover of the game when he intercepted Herbert in the first quarter on a throw meant for Gerald Everett.Rookie of the game: Jahmyr Gibbs twice found the end zone and carried the ball 14 times for 77 rushing yards in the first half, showcasing his talent early and frequently. Gibbs completed the day with over 100 all-purpose yards after adding three more receptions for 35 yards. In a pivotal juncture in this game, with the Chargers trailing by a touchdown and facing a fourth-and-one from the one-yard line, Quentin Johnston scored his first NFL touchdown. To extend that drive, Johnston also successfully got a significant defensive pass interference call on fourth down. Along with his touchdown, the rookie first-round choice of the draft concluded the day with four catches for 34 yards.
