As fans lament the extreme heat and scarcity of water, a Taylor Swift fan passes away during a concert in Rio.

Taylor Swift takes the stage during “the Eras tour” on Friday in Rio de Janeiro.

An official statement from the Brazilian show organizers stated that a 23-year-old fan of Taylor Swift passed away during the singer’s Friday night Eras Tour performance in Rio de Janeiro.

Swift expressed her sadness over the death on Saturday.

Swift posted on Instagram, “It’s unbelievable that I’m writing this, but I’m sad to say that we lost a fan before my show tonight.”

Swift posted on Instagram, “I don’t know much about her other than the fact that she was very young and extremely beautiful.”

Ana Clara Benevides Machado was identified as the fan by Time4Fun, the concert organizer.

The organizer said in an Instagram statement, “Last night, Ana Clara felt unwell and was promptly attended to by the team of firefighters and paramedics, being taken to the medical center at the Nilton Santos Stadium for first aid protocol.” “Considering the circumstances, the medical staff decided to take her to Salgado Filho Hospital, where she sadly passed away after receiving emergency care for nearly an hour. Our deepest sympathies go out to Ana Clara Benevides Machado’s family and friends.”

On Friday night, Swift made a stop in Rio de Janeiro as part of her “Eras Tour.” Before her first performances in São Paulo, which start on November 24, she has two more shows scheduled for the city on Saturday and Sunday.

Although Machado’s cause of death is unknown, Swift mentioned during the performance that people needed water, and at one point she threw a bottle of water to a person in the crowd. These videos have since been shared on social media.

Rio was among the many areas of the country under a red heat alert, according to Brazil’s meteorological service. According to the forecast, Saturday would reach a high of 96 degrees Fahrenheit and 64% humidity.

Eduardo Paes, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, stated on X that “the loss of a young woman’s life…is unacceptable.”

According to Paes, the municipality will demand on Saturday that the show’s production company provide additional brigades and ambulances, new water distribution points, and one hour’s advance notice for show entrance while authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

It’s unclear if Swift’s scheduled performances in Rio on Saturday and Sunday will be postponed due to inclement weather.

She wrote, “When I even try to talk about this, I feel overwhelmed by grief, so I’m not going to be able to speak about it from stage.” “I would just like to express how deeply I feel about this loss and how much my heart hurts for her family and friends.”
