Why is Israel's war centered at Gaza's al-Shifa Hospital?

The largest hospital in Gaza and one of the few that is still in operation, al-Shifa Hospital, has been the target of Israeli army strikes, as we have been reporting.

Situated near the harbor in Gaza City’s northern Remal neighborhood, the location was formerly occupied by British Army barracks. In 1946, it was converted to a hospital, and between Egyptian administration and the Israeli occupation in the 1980s, it saw multiple additions.

Al-Shifa is currently at its breaking point as it struggles to provide care for thousands of patients while coming under direct Israeli military attack.

Great deal of damage’ at al-Shifa Hospital from Israeli air raids

The airstrikes get more intense the more discussion there is of a possible ceasefire.

Last night, numerous Israeli airstrikes targeted the front and rear of al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, which is located very close to the main road leading to the hospital’s entrance. As a result, a significant portion of the hospital and its properties, along with the surrounding infrastructure and roads, were destroyed.

The X-ray department was one of the hospital’s primary departments that was severed due to extensive damage.
